I was hoping to find a cake pan with a bowling theme, but since I couldn't find one, and I'm not so creative as to make up my own pattern, I went with a rather neutral Party Hat Pan. So far, I have baked the cake, cut the extra piece off the top/bottom, and sampled it to make sure it is suitable for the children!! Tomorrow I will decorate it!
I started decorating cakes two years ago for the kids' birthdays and really enjoy it. It is rather time-consuming, so I don't do too many cakes, but a couple each year is fine, and the results are very satisfying. I rent the pans from the Bulk Barn, but the Wilton website shows that there are dozens out there! No bowling pins, though.
The Cars cake was the one I did last year for Jonathan's birthday. It turned out very well, as I had bought a new, smaller tip, and the stars were not as large. The family birthday supper is next Saturday on Elizabeth's birthday, so I will do another cake for that night, but I haven't decided whether I'm going to do Wall-E or a princess castle. I'm leaning towards the castle.
Rebekah had her second riding lesson this afternoon. She rode a rather uncooperative pony named Diamond. I think she's hoping to ride Happy, the horse from last week, at her next lesson. The teacher seems quite pleased with her riding!
